Anti-Aging: Minimizing the Appearance of Wrinkles
Fine lines, creases and wrinkles are highly-visible signs of aging, so most of us seek to eliminate, disguise and delay their appearance. There are many non-surgical methods available to help achieve a more youthful and rejuvenated look. Here is a quick guide to the most effective non-surgical anti-wrinkle treatments to help improve the tone and appearance of the skin and delay the signs of aging.
Wrinkle Relaxers (BOTOX & Dysport)
Wrinkle relaxer injections are non-invasive treatments which consist of injecting small doses of a high-quality toxin called Botulinum, which is FDA approved for medical and cosmetic use. This procedure helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles beneath the skin. By eliminating the tension from the muscles, the surface skin appears smoother.
Relaxants (or Neuromodulators) are not only are used to treat existing wrinkles but also are able to prevent the formation of new ones as they ensure the facial muscles are less tense and prevents creases from forming. BOTOX and Dysport treatments are done right at the injector’s office with little to no recovery time.
Wrinkle relaxerscan be applied to various areas such as:
- Around the eyebrows (Simulates an eyebrow lift)
- Forehead – Frown Lines / Forehead Lines
- Between the eyebrows – Glabellar Lines
- Around the eyes – Crows Feet / Tear Troughs
- On/Around the nose – Bunny Feet / Nasolabial Folds
- Upper Lip – Smoker’s Lines
- Around the mouth – Marionette Lines / Smile Lines / Gummy Smile
- Chin – Mental Crease
- Neck – Neck Lines
- Jaw – Square Jaw / Tension Headaches
Dermal Fillers (Restylane & Juvederm)
Dermal fillers are a non-invasive treatment consisting of the injection of a Hyaluronic Acid gel, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body. HA fillers are able to retain moisture and plump the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep creases.
In additional to filling out wrinkles, dermal fillerscan be applied to several areas of the face to add volume to the lips, cheeks, chin, and to lines on the nose and mouth. They can also create an “8 Point Lift” which mimics the results of a surgical facelift.
Restylane and Juvederm are hyaluronic acid-containing dermal fillers used to plump up the skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and add volume to lips. Both Restylane and Juvederm are said to produce smooth results due to the plumping effects of hyaluronic acid. They also contain lidocaine to alleviate pain during the procedure. Each brand has different formulas which are approved by the FDA. Your injector will help determine the correct product for your needs.
Skin Resurfacing (Fraxel Laser, Microneedling & Chemical Peels)
Skin resurfacing treatments are non-invasive procedures to improve the skin texture and firmness by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. These procedures include Chemical Peels, Microneedling, and Fraxel Laser treatment.
Chemical Peelsare a technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the skin. A peel solution induces a controlled injury to the skin where the resulting healing processes regenerates new tissue. Chemical peels improve the tone, texture and clarity of your skin while reducing the appearance of sun damage, brown spots, large pores, fine lines, and other skin care concerns. They stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, giving your skin a younger and healthier glow.
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles. Microneedling is used to treat and improve conditions like acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues. Eclipse MicroPen is a dermal micro-needling treatment device that produces exceptional results which are far better than other common techniques.
Fraxel Laser Treatmentis a line of non-surgical lasers for facial rejuvenation. Fraxel lasers cause fractional photothermolysis to create a controlled damage in the dermis. This stimulates your skin’s natural healing process. This inside out treatment approach stimulates collagen and elastin production, resulting in a total skin rejuvenation that removes years from your appearance.

What Are Dermal Fillers And How Do They Work?
Dermal fillers have become increasingly popular because they can help you maintain a natural younger look without invasive surgery. Dermal fillers make treating wrinkles and expression lines considerably convenient and cost effective, and they address progressive volume loss issues that a facelift can’t.
It is noteworthy that dermal fillers restore volume with one of several different substances, unlike Botox injections that relax the muscles of the face. Consequently, problem areas are corrected at the time of injection, creating a more youthful appearance instantly.
The most-used fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is a substance naturally found in the body and is well-tolerated. There are several brands of fillers currently available.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal fillers primarily replace lost volume in the face and other parts of the body, such as the backs of hands. A dermal filler primarily aims to change the facial profile to a more youthful one rather than simply tightening or smoothing the skin. Dermal fillers can be used:
- To restore fullness to the cheekbones or cheeks, thereby returning the skin to its original position
- To removelines from the nose to the mouth, the mouth to the chin, lines above the upper lip, and frown lines
- To enhance or restore natural volume to the lips
- To add volume to the back of the hands and reduce the prominence of veins
How Long Do Fillers Last?
The longevity of fillers depends on the injection technique, the area treated, and your skin type. Hyaluronic acid fillers vary from 6 months to 24 months.
The treatment with fillers takes about an hour. The most common side effects of this kind of treatment include temporary injection-site reactions, such swelling, bruising, and redness. Swelling normally lasts about 24 hours. Bruising can last up to two weeks but usually resolves in one week.
Is There Pain Associated with Fillers?
The pain involving dermal fillers depends on the area of treatment. In areas such as the cheeks there is minimal discomfort as topical numbing cream is applied before treatment. For adding volume to the lips, local anesthetics are used prior to injections making it an almost painless experience.
The most common side effects of fillers are bruising and swelling. Very rare complications can occur if the operator accidentally injects filler into blood vessels, resulting in potential skin loss. The most affected area for this complication is the tip of the nose and glabella.
When Are the Results Visible?
The results are noticeable immediately after dermal fillers are used. However, final results are visible around 1–2 weeks after the subsiding of any potential swelling or bruising caused by the injectables.
Dermal fillers are the solution for a natural look that can add confidence to the way you carry yourself. By restoring volume, and reducing wrinkles and sagging, these products allow anyone to maintain a consistent youthful appearance.
Isolaz, The New Age Solution For Acne
From adolescence to adulthood, one of the most common skin conditions affecting people today is acne. Though not dangerous, acne blemishes the skin and can leave scars that affect you’re appearance and confidence.
Acne is essentially the breakout of pimples, cysts, blackheads, whiteheads, and nodules. Pimples appear when skin follicles get blocked due to oil that builds up under the skin. Though they mostly occur on the face, other common areas include the back, neck, shoulders and chest.
There are various kinds of treatments for acne, ranging from over-the-counter medications (creams, lotions, soaps, gels and pads applied to the skin), corticosteroid injections, oral antibiotics, and topical antimicrobials. The latest innovative treatment is Isolaz. Unlike anything before, Isolaz helps patients achieve smooth, clear skin quickly and painlessly. LaserOne MedSpa is very excited to offer this treatment to our Tucson area clients.
What Is Isolaz?
Isolaz is an advanced procedure that combines laser and vacuum technology to produce flawless skin with relatively few side effects. The laser removes acne-causing bacteria and evens out skin tone while the vacuum helps extract oil, blackheads and dirt from the pores. The effect is remarkably healthy and clear skin.
Isolaz laser treatment is the first treatment that has been tested to treat comedonal and pustular acne, along with mild to moderate cases of other acne. Most patients experience a significant improvement in their skin after Isolaz treatment.
Isolaz treatment helps counter the root causes of acne by:
- Cleaning your pores
- Purifying from the inside out
- Replenishing your skin
Advantages of Isolaz
Short Treatment Time
The Isolaz procedure typically takes about 10 –20 minutes, depending on the location and size of the area being treated, eliminating the hassles associated with a long treatment time. Most patients require four treatment sessions to achieve noticeable results.
No Need for Anesthesia
No anesthesia is required for this procedure because the pain is minimal, if at all. This is a great advantage over surgery and other medications that causes irritation to the skin -– there is no need for numbing or needles.
Treats All Types of Acne
All types of acne, ranging from mild to moderate inflammatory acne to severe forms of comedonal and pustular acne, can be eliminated with Isolaz. It also treats pimples, blackheads, and hormonal or cystic acne. Anyone can opt for this treatment without worrying whether your kind of acne qualifies for the procedure.
Fewer Side Effects
Apart from minimal redness and increased initial acne surfacing due to the process, Isolaz has few side effects. The acne that breaks out post-treatment would normally lie beneath the surface waiting to appear anyway, and Isolaz resolves it quicker, getting you to clearer skin sooner.
Suitable for Multiple Skin Types
Isolaz is generally suitable for people of various ages and skin types. Unlike many medications that are not applicable to dry skin or oily skin, the Isolaz laser procedure can be used for almost anyone and everyone. Isolaz technology can be customized to your unique skin type.
What to Expect During Isolaz Acne Treatment
When the Isolaz laser tip is placed on you skin, you’ll feel a warm but painless sensation. The process is repeated over the entire area of treatment. The treatment is most commonly comparable to a warm massage. In fact, almost all patients report no pain in undergoing the Isolaz laser procedure.
Within 24–48 hours, you’ll see the results of the Isolaz procedure. There is reduced discoloration and redness, along with an instant drying out of blemishes. Unlike other laser acne treatments, the treated skin does not have any light sensitivities post-treatment. You can resume work and other normal activities immediately after the procedure.
Isolaz laser treatment is a safe and painless method for getting clear, smooth skin quickly. It has been clinically proven to be effective by leading dermatologists and is approved by the FDA.
